Since the suns out again I’m talking SPF and in particular Kimberly Sayer Anti-Oxidant Daily Moisturising Cream SPF30 (what a mouthful).
For years I was convinced I did not need SPF since I was a person of colour, but boy was I wrong and since I’ve been using SPF my skin has definitely been thanking me for it.
Why do we ned SPF?
Other than SPF being an obvious form of a protection against the sun (no thanks Skin Cancer), using SPF also has many other benefits. It protects your skin from;
- anti ageing – sun exposure is actually one of the biggest contributors to signs of premature ageing. UV rays from the sun can cause wrinkles, sun spots, hyperpigmentaion, reduced skin elasticity and can really damage the texture of your skin
- pigmentation – the sun can bring about dark sun spots and can make your skin look dull
- Skin Cancer – protecting your skin from the sun can lower the risk of Skin Cancer which can be life threatening by the way
- sunburn – sunburn damages your skin making it prone to peeling, blemishes, bruising, hives, redness and itching.
What’s wrong with conventional sunscreen?
Long story short chemical sunscreens use a lot of harmful ingredients such as oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate.
A lot of these harmful chemicals are endocrine disruptors, estrogenic and could possible mess with thyroid and other hormone processes in your body.
Take oxybenzone for example. It’s one of the most used chemicals in sunscreen regardless of the fact that it is thought of as endocrine disruptor, can reduce sperm count in men and may contribute to endometriosis in women. It’s definitely something children pregnant/breastfeeding women should stay clear of.
It’s safer to opt for a mineral sunscreen which uses Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide to protect your skin from UVA an UVB rays.
Thoughts on the Kimberly Sayer Anti-Oxidant Moisturising Cream SPF30
This mineral sunscreen has offered me a nice healthy amount of broad spectrum protection. I have combination skin and this doesn’t feel greasy on my skin so it sits under makeup nicely. It’s lighter compared to a lot of other SPF products I have used. It’s not super thick so my makeup isn’t slipping and sliding everywhere.
It also doesn’t give me a white cast and I find that I can wear it alone and it offers me enough moisture. I wear this alone on no-makeup days or when I go to the gym and it gives my skin a nice healthy appearance. My skin looks plump and fresh with minimal effort.
I only need a small amount so I reckon this jar will last me quite a while.
This little jar contains Beech Bud extract which heals and repairs ages damaged cells deep within the skin. It also has anti-ageing and anti-wrinkling properties. In addition it also contains nettle extract which promotes cellular growth.
The price point for this product is £26.50 which I think is really reasonable. I wouldn’t be mad about spending that type of money on this product again. You can pick it up from Love Lula here.
Overall I’m really liking this product. It doesn’t interfere with the rest of my skincare routine and I can still get away with using other products underneath it. It’s the perfect consistency for my skin and I love how it looks on the skin when I wear it alone. I will definitely be purchasing another jar of this when I’m out!
