Hi guys. Today I’m going to share some staple products that I feel like are essential for living a more natural life. Most people are under the impression that living a holistic life is expensive an when it come to makeup it can be but I am here to show you some of my favourite multipurpose natural products. If you are looking into having a healthier skincare routine, this is where I would start…
This is one of my most favourite oils ever. I use it for shaving my legs, cleaning my teeth with the oil pulling process, conditioning my hair, moisturising my skin, conditioning my nails, cooking, and it is one of the main ingredients in my DIY deodorant.
So I use this mainly for my hair and my skin. It is very very moisturising so it’s amazing especially for the colder months; my skin tends to get dry and it saves me from looking like an alligator. It’s also really great for shaving your legs. Conventional shaving creams are full of nasty chemicals and to be honest they irritate my legs and dry them out. Massage a small amount of coconut oil into your legs and shave away.
For my hair, it’s great at repairing the damage done from bleach and dye. It’s also helped grow my hair quite quick. This time last year my hair was just below my ear and its grown a lot in the last year. I like to tip my head upside down and massage in some coconut oil for 1-2 minutes before bed.
I also use coconut oil to keep my mouth and teeth clean! People really underestimate how strong the connection between the cleanliness of your mouth and the health of your entire body is. Oil pulling is admittedly a little bit gross but I’ve gotten used to it now. I take a teaspoon full of coconut oil and swish it around in my mouth for 20-30 minutes in the morning before I brush my teeth. The coconut oil helps pull out bacteria from your mouth, gums and teeth. Then I spit it out, gargle with salt water and brush my teeth with toothpaste as usual.
At first glance good quality cold pressed coconut oil can look pricey. You get roughly 500kg for about £15. But I always get mine from Holland and Barrett during the penny sale and it works out roughly £7 per jar and it lasts for a long time. So if I’m spending £7 on my face and body oil, hair oil, shaving cream and more…that’s pretty cheap.
Dr Bronner Liquid Castile Soap
At first glance I just thought this was body wash but I was mistaken. Fun Fact- Castile Soap is actually made from Olive Oil. This soap can be diluted and mixed with water, oils, honey and more to make natural facial cleansers, hand soaps, body wash, shaving cream and lots of other great natural stuff.
I use it to make a 2-in-1 natural body wash/shaving cream I mix equal parts Dr Bronners and equal parts oil (of your choice) in a small bottle. I’m lazy, I don’t like to use a million different products just to have a bath and this makes it so easy and fuss free. Currently I am using the Lemon flavour which is nice and energising but I really want to try Tea Tree and Peppermint next.
I also like to mix it with a little honey to wash my face on days where my skin feels clogged or closer to my time of the month when I suffer from hormonal breakouts.
This product may seem pricey for soap at first glance but because you can dilute the product, it lasts for a very long time. You can get this from Naturisimo and they have coupon codes regularly that offer 10-15% off. I’ve also seen this sold at Asos and Feel Unique who also have regular offers but you can find Dr Bronner Liquid Castile Soap at a lot of places including Amazon.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Ahh this stuff stinks. But it’s natural, it’s cheap, and it works!
I mix it with equal parts water and wipe it on my skin after washing it with a cotton round to tone my face. I also like to use it with my Indian Healing Clay mask for drawing out impurities from my skin.
I also mix it with baking powder and water and soak my fingers in it for a natural manicure. It’s a great way to whiten your nails and it softens up your cuticles so you can push them back so that your nails look nice and prim.
It’s also nice to put a little in your water to help your skin from within!
So that’s my three staple products that I cannot live without.
