Hi all! I feel like I haven’t done a review in ages and I thought it was about time that I did. Today I’m reviewing some of the S5 Skincare products. This is a new brand to me, I had never heard of S5 Skincare before so I was excited to learn a bit more about their products. S5 Skincare aim to solve skin problems and take care of the skin using the strength of ingredients found in the most weather extreme places on Earth like Antartica, the Wadi Desert in Egypt and the high mountains of Tibet. The bioactives (chemicals, chemical molecules and microbes – don’t worry these are natural chemicals – don’t panic not all chemcials are bad and unnatural) in S5 products offer natural resistance and protection against environmental stress.
This is meant to help our skin cope with things like pollution, UV and EMF radiation, chemical irritation and environmental damage. Reducing stressful factors (like the ones previous mentioned) from our skin helps to create a healthy balance for the skin. In turn this reduces the chances of skin problems like sensitivity, redness, blemishes and premature ageing – nobody wants this.
Now you know a bit about the line let me tell you how I got on. So the brand has products aimed at specific skin issues i.e. dry skin, sensitive skin, blemishes, fine lines, and pigmentation. I chose to try the Nourish Cleanser for Dry Skin.
S5 Nourish Cleanser
I chose this because I wanted a gentle cleanser to remove my makeup with, without using straight oil. Although my skin is oily/combo it still works well with my skin to get a little pre cleanse. It smells good and looks pretty cool. I do love that it’s orange (I love orange).
The consistency is not like an oil, it’s quite strange, it’s thick, goopy and sticky – almost like honey. The directions say to massage it onto a dry face and then add a little warm water to form a light milk consistency. However it’s way to dry and sticky for me to massage it onto a dry face. I have to add a few drops of water straight away.
Saying that it does a good job in melting the makeup off my face and I can see why it would be good for dry skin (it’s very moisturising). Be warned though, try very hard not the get this in your eyes because it does sting.
- It has amazing ingredients; arctic sea buckthorn oil, desert pomegranate oil, Chilean rosehip oil, and desert argan oil.
- Only 20% of the ingredients are organic although this is a natural product. This doesn’t seem like a lot considering the cleanser is priced at £32 which is essspensive.
- If this sounds like it would work well for you as it might if you have dry skin, Planet Organic is currently selling it for £16.
- The product does last for ages because you don’t need much and it’s very thick.
S5 Balance Fluid
The S5 Balance Fluid for blemish prone, normal to oily skin. Now considering this was more up my street, I didn’t really get on with this. However my husband seems to use it just fine, but he does have oiler skin than me.
This isn’t a typical cream, it is very much a fluid. The consistency is quite milky yet tacky at the same time. This didn’t wear well on me unfortunately. If I ran my fingers over my skin after, it would start to peel off a little. As you can imagine this isn’t ideal for makeup application.
It did help reduce the excess oil in my face giving me a matt canvas to work on. But the fact that I couldn’t wear it under makeup kind of ruined it for me.
For £39 I wouldn’t purchase it. Although if you’re extremely oily it may work for you and if you are, Planet Organic is selling it for £19.50.
Because I didn’t use it for long I can’t give you a full review but here are the hubby’s thoughts in typical man fashion lol;
- it’s helped reduce the oiliness of his face although he feels like theres still enough moisture
- he didn’t see a difference the viability of his pores
- it didn’t peel on his face
- it lasted for a long time
Overall I didn’t really get on with S5 Skincare too much. The Nourish Cleanser works well to remove makeup but in all honesty I’ve used better. Maybe it would be suited more to people with drier skin. On the other hand the S5 Balance Fluid did not work for me and this is for oily skin. Let me know if you have tried any of the S5 Skincare products and how they worked for you, I would love to hear about it. If you are interested in trying any of the S5 products, Planet Organic are currently holding a 50% sale on some of their products.
Until next time guys!
